El Sabor De Mercedes
In Sunnyvale, California

“El Sabor Chalateco” to El Sabor de Mercedes

It was not a coincidence that Salvadorian sisters Rosie & Iby are at the forefront of the new restaurant at Taquería El Pollo in Sunnyvale now operating under a new name: El Sabor de Mercedes. They grew up in the restaurant industry in Chalatenango, El Salvador at their Mother, Mercedes Cardoza-Guardado’s restaurant called “El Sabor Chalateco”. “That name was already taken in Santa Clara County, so we opted for El Sabor de Mercedes in honor of our Mother.”, says Rosie Guardado. When partner Alberto Sánchez who was then owner of Taquería El Pollo in Sunnyvale invited them to join him in the venture and add their delicious Salvadoran dishes to the menu, the sisters were stoked and in no time, took the pan by the handle and made the transition smoothly with great dexterity. Enjoy the renowned Mexican specialties served by Taquería El Pollo as well as the new and invigorating Salvadorian proprietary recipes that the they bring to the table. Their strength and knowledge in the kitchen come naturally to the sisters, and their specialties include exquisite Salvadorian pupusas, tamales, soups and many other Salvadorian, local favorite dishes. Ever since they arrived in Santa Clara County, The Guardado sisters have been involved in the restaurant industry including their own catering services. Now, their dream of owning a restaurant in the San Francisco Bay Area, has become a reality.
